Jill RapleyThis site is dedicated to providing you with ideas and tools to help you enhance your life and business.

One great way to do this is to bring back that personal touch that seems to have gotten lost in the busy paced and hi-tech age we live in.

Let’s go back a few years for a minute.

Do you remember when:

You walked into the corner grocery store and the grocer knew you by name, Not only that but all you had to do was ask for coffee or tea and your favorite brand would be set in front of you. He (or she) knew what you liked.

Then you would chat awhile about the local sports team, the weather or an upcoming event.

Just as you were about to pay for your coffee, your friend the grocer would comment: Did you remember your wife’s (or husband’s) birthday is today? She/he likes these chocolates right?

Oh yes, thank you. You would make the purchase and set off for home pretending you had remembered :-)

Well something like that right? Your local grocery was not just a place where you bought your supplies. You also enjoyed a chat with a FRIEND – the grocer.

I vividly remember those days, especially since my Dad was a grocer and my parents owned a corner grocery store.

Then along came the big supermarkets. They were cheaper, bigger, brighter. But you liked the corner grocer better, higher prices and all.

Why? Because of the personal touch.

Of course the same scenario was true in many walks of life. I simply used the illustration of the corner grocery store because my parents owned one. And yes, the big supermarkets arrived and eventually ate us up!

So many of the privately owned smaller businesses were like that (and yes there ARE still a few left today). However today there are many more large corporations where customers are a number, and usually every time you call customer service you speak to yet another stranger.

Today’s Trend:

People today are crying out for the personal touch.

  • Yes we NEED friends.
  • We NEED to be appreciated.
  • We NEED to be respected and honored for who we are.

Let’s face it, if you have a choice between dealing with a business that has staff that treat you with respect and another where you are treated you as a number, which business would you choose?

In our family life, there was a time when all members of the family lived within a few minutes of each other. Today many families are separated by hundreds, even thousands of miles.

Certainly with the technology of today it is easier to stay in touch at least digitally.

But what about receiving something in the mail from a family member or friend? How often does that happen?

How often do you receive a personalized note of appreciation in the mail from your local restaurant or business?

On this blog we will be exploring ideas that will help you to restore this personal touch to your life and business even in the midst of the busy life that you lead. The most important area of our lives is our relationships with other people.

Life is all about building relationships.

Even building a business is about building relationships. Any business built on solid relationships has an excellent chance of succeeding!

Reach out and touch someone today!
